Help Merv Cruise Into Retirement

Donation protected
Today my dad, Merv Windey, retires, after 38 years (and 4 months but who's counting?)   ...THIRTY EIGHT YEARS as a custodian for Southwest Minnesota State University.   For the entire length of time that I've been on this earth, he's been waking up at 4am, diligently going into work and cleaning up after 18-22year olds - that could NOT have been easy!

All the years of waxing floors, vacuuming classrooms, and shoveling walkways in the Minnesota cold, have resulted in a brand spanking new shoulder, foot issues over the years, and carpal tunnel surgery, but he kept going in, day after day, year after year, with a smile on his face.   And known as a jokester amongst his coworkers, he created a lot of smiles along the way

I'm happy he finally gets his chance to rest, and I'd like to give him something special to celebrate his long career (and also my mom, who retired last year)....something to kick off their retirement together.  They never go on vacation, and are content without anything "fancy."  The only thing they've ever said they wanted to do was take an Alaskan Cruise, but that it was far too out of their budget (and it's out of mine as well)

I'd like to try and make that trip (or wherever they decide to go) a reality, and I set the goal of this GoFundMe campaign at $3804 just because it represents his 38 years and 4 months of work, but if we can even gather a fraction of that, it would help toward giving them an unforgettable memory they can share together.  And frankly, it will force them to actually splurge for once in their lives (my dad still drives a 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass that is currently leaving rust stains on the driveway)

Anything you might be able to contribute would be appreciated, but times are tough for a lot of people, so if you can't, then just be extra nice to the janitor wherever you work.  Most of the time, they are a faceless person who quietly goes about their business and most people might just give a head nod to, but they might also be a great one like my dad, who demonstrated a respectable work ethic that I always looked up to.

Thanks everyone!
