Help Mersida Save Her Brother’s Life
Hello friends and families, we want to share a story with you about Mersida and her younger brother, Mersid. Mersida started working with us at Washu last August. Since day one, she has always been professional, consistent, and reliable with her work. She has always been nurturing with everyone she is around.
She and her brother have been inseparable since surviving the Bosnian War as children. After losing their mother and grandparents, they immigrated to the U.S. in 1998 with just $50 to their name, determined to build a better life. Mersida worked tirelessly from the age of 15 to support her family, eventually settling in St. Louis, where she now raises three daughters. For the past 15 years, she has been a dedicated employee and familiar face at Washington University, serving the community with kindness and hard work.
Last October, Mersid began experiencing severe health issues, which escalated into kidney and liver failure. Doctors have warned that he is at high risk of a heart attack and could face a five-year wait for a donor kidney. Unwilling to let her brother suffer, Mersida stepped up to be his donor and has passed all medical tests. Until the transplant, Mersid must undergo dialysis every other day while continuing to work. We could tell that something had happened when we talked to Mersida, and we want to help her as much as she has helped us. Having immigrated to the United States ourselves, we understand the importance of family in an unfamiliar place.
This GoFundMe, organized by Corner 17, aims to raise $50,000 to cover medical expenses and support Mersid’s recovery. Mersida has dedicated her life to caring for others—both in her family and through her years of service at Washington University. Now she needs our help to save her brother.
Any contribution, big or small, will make a difference. Thank you for your support!
