This holiday season, dozens of Columbia, Tennessee families are facing fear and uncertainty instead of joy and celebration. Just weeks before Christmas, Mersen, a multinational manufacturing company, furloughed 80% of its workforce and permanently laid off 25% of workers at its Columbia, Tennessee plant. These hard working men and women have been left without paychecks or healthcare during the most critical time of the year.
The layoffs come after Mersen promised stable jobs following a $70 million expansion at the facility—partially funded by Tennessee taxpayers and touted by state and local officials as a win for workers. These workers stood up for fair wages, safer conditions, and job security by voting to unionize earlier this year. Instead of negotiating in good faith, the company chose to lay off workers, leaving families struggling to make ends meet during the holidays.
We need your help to ensure these families can put food on the table, keep the lights on, and make this holiday season a little brighter despite the challenges they’re facing. Every dollar you donate will go directly to the affected workers and their families to help cover essential expenses.
Now more than ever, we need to come together as a community to support our neighbors. Let’s show these families they are not alone. Please donate and share this fundraiser with your network to help spread the word.
Together, we can turn this season of uncertainty into one of hope and resilience. Thank you for your kindness and support.
All funds donated will go to support workers given a permanent lay-off this 2024 Holiday Season.
