Help Merrell and her Cats

Tax deductible
On September 20 we received an URGENT email to our info address. Please understand, this is a daily occurrence. Not a day goes by that someone is not emailing or messaging on some social media platform about getting rid of their cats or needing help with abandoned/found cats and kittens.

We always try to respond one way or the other with suggestions even if we are unable to help but Lapcats is not a public surrender facility. We are not an animal shelter we are a small, foster, rescue group.

When this email came in and I responded with some questions, I could tell this person was desperate. I checked her personal Facebook page to find desperate pleas for help and pictures of her babies. She was trying and her time was running out. All she cared about was her cats.

She was two weeks from living on the street without a car, a job, or a future. The weather in Sacramento is turning and soon it would be extremely cold. Not safe for anyone to be living on the streets. She needed help.

She has five cats and obviously for Lapcats to take five adult cats into foster care all at once is a huge undertaking. We are still placing kittens who have been in foster for many months and continuing to get calls for found kittens in the community.

When I asked what it would take to keep her in her current home so she could live safely with her kitties, it was all about money. Not a lot of money to some but to her it was life altering.

We are sending out a plea to our supporters and friends to ask for a donation of just $2.00!

With over 2000 Facebook supporters, and 4100+ adopters, if everyone donated a minimum of only $2.00, we could help Merrell and her kitties for several months so she can get on her feet and they can stay together.

Here is her original plea to Lapcats and pictures of her beautiful babies.

I have had a bad couple of years. I was admitted to the ICU twice in 2018 due to diabetic issues and ended up losing my job. I am a 56 year old single woman with 5 rescued cats, but I will be homeless at the beginning of October with no one to help my cats or myself to obtain shelter. I have been trying to re-home my cats before it’s too late. It’s breaking my heart but they need new homes and I need your help to find them. Please call me or email me so I can provide specifics on the cats. I have had all but one since they were kittens, but I never went looking to adopt. I’m a lifelong cat lover who couldn’t say no when they crossed my path. Please help, I have never surrendered a cat before, but I have no money or income to avoid the homelessness.

Thank you,

Merrell

When someone is feeling alone and defeated, they’ve been a contributor to society and had a career they can no longer participate in because of medical reasons, the power of a community pulling together can lift them up like no words could ever explain. To know complete strangers care enough to help you get on your feet when you have no friends or family support, is a HUGE.

If you can spare any amount and donate to help Merrell and her babies, Fiona, Cassiopeia, Ziggy, Jasmine, and Petunia, we would all be so grateful. Not only is it tax deductible, it is life changing❤️
