MERP needs a new home!
Donation protected
I am Tracy Hinman, Board President of the Medical Equipment Recycling Program (MERP) in Santa Rosa, CA. We collect and give away used medical equipment and healthcare supplies to anyone in need in Sonoma County. All items are free, but recipients can leave a donation if they are able, to help us pay our rent. We are staffed completely by volunteers. Currently we pay $600/mo for four shipping containers that are in the parking lot of a warehouse on Dutton Ave in Santa Rosa. Once a week we open them up, and our volunteers help members of the public to donate their unwanted items, or find the medical supplies that they need.
We've been asked by the landlord to leave this location because our program has gotten too big, and we are in their way. We are open every Wednesday, rain or shine, from 11 AM to 2 PM, and serve at least 50 people each week during that time.
We have helped thousands of Sonoma County residents meet their medical needs. In 2023, we estimate we gave away over $265,000 worth of equipment and supplies, and kept those items out of the landfill. By comparison, we took in approximately $9600 in cash donations in 2023.
We haven't found a new place to move yet, but hope to in the next month or two. When we do, we will need funds to help us move our approximately 600 ft.² worth of medical equipment and supplies. Additional funds would also help us pay rent at a new location, as we anticipate having to pay much more than we do now.
We have just established as a nonprofit, and all donations are tax deductible.
