Merlin has recently and unexpectedly been diagnosed with lung and brain cancer. He will start radiation treatments for the brain cancer however, the lung cancer is not curable but with treatments it can extend his time with his family. He has 6 grandchildren and wants to be around for the milestones in their lives including birthdays, holidays, sports games, high school graduations etc. He is the main provider for his household which includes his wife and mother-in-law who has dementia and requires full-time care. His current diagnosis has put a major strain on them financially.
