On Saturday, our sweet pup Merlin survived what can only be described as a miracle—he was struck by an SUV and somehow pulled through. We rushed him to the emergency hospital in Colorado Springs, where doctors treated him for a severe pneumothorax and major pulmonary contusions. In the first 24 hours, they had to tap his chest three times to remove dangerous air and fluid buildup.
We are beyond grateful to share that Merlin is now back home with us, resting. He’s on heavy sedation to keep him calm while his little body heals, a process that will take weeks at minimum. Each day brings small but hopeful improvements, and we’re so thankful he’s still with us.
The teams at both our local vet and the ER in Colorado Springs were incredible, and we wouldn’t have entrusted Merlin’s care to anyone else. Unfortunately, the severity of his injuries has left us with a very large medical bill, with additional follow-up costs expected in the coming months. Any contribution, no matter the size, would mean so much in helping us recover from the financial strain of giving Merlin the care he needed.
Merlin is an 11-month-old Cavapoo who lives in Buena Vista, CO. He adores hiking the mountain trails, splashing in the river, and carrying around his favorite stuffed toy, Duck. Every day he looks forward to visiting the dog park, where he happily keeps up with his “big dog” friends. Merlin has the kindest spirit, loves everyone he meets, and brings joy wherever he goes. We just want him to have the long, healthy life he deserves.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your love, generosity, and support.
With gratitude,
