Merle and Connie Mullet woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of their smoke alarm. The fan was in the window and they didn't smell anything, but when they opened their bedroom door they were met with suffocating amounts of smoke. They fought their way downstairs, blinded by the smoke and battling the heat.

They were able to get out of the house with nothing but the clothes on their back. They made it to a neighbor's to call 911, but it was ultimately no use. Their house is completely gone, leveled to the foundation.

The house was built by Merle's grandparents, who homesteaded in the early 1900s. It was filled with irreplaceable heirlooms and memories. Everything is gone save for the most important thing: their lives.
