My roommate Meri has just experienced the heartbreaking loss of her beloved 15-year-old dog, Nina. Anyone who has ever loved a pet knows that they are so much more than animals—they are family, companions, and best friends. Today, Meri lost not just her dog, but a cherished member of her family. I want to do everything I can to support her through this incredibly difficult time and help her honor Nina’s memory.

With the ground frozen this winter, we are unable to lay Nina to rest in the way we had hoped. Instead, we are turning to the Lynchburg Humane Society for help. The funds raised will go directly toward the cost of transporting Nina from Lynchburg to their facility in Evington for cremation, and then bringing her cremains back to Lynchburg so Meri can bring her home one last time. This will allow us to give Nina the dignified farewell she deserves, even in the midst of challenging weather.
