Help Mercy Auma Walk Again After Losing Her Aunt in a Tragic Shooting

Hello, my name is Grace Ouattara, and I am raising funds for Mercy Auma, a 19-year-old girl whose life was shattered by a tragic and senseless shooting on February 24, 2025, at the "Container Pork Joint" in Lira, Uganda.

That night, unknown gunmen opened fire on the popular eatery, killing one woman and injuring two others. The woman who lost her life was 28-year-old Hellen Akello —Mercy’s beloved aunt and guardian. Mercy had been living with Hellen, who was like a mother to her.

Mercy herself was shot three times, with one bullet still painfully lodged in her leg. She was rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital, where doctors recommended urgent surgery. But two months later, Mercy is still bedridden and in constant pain, unable to afford the orthopedic reconstruction nails needed for the procedure, which cost over 4 million Ugandan shillings (about USD 1,000).

“I was supposed to be operated on, but we don’t have the money for the nails needed to fix my leg,” Mercy shared from her hospital bed.

“I’m begging well-wishers to help me so that I can walk again and live a normal life."
