Help Mercy Fight Cancer Again

My name is Dia, and I’m raising funds for my dear friend and mentee, Mercy. She’s a 35-year-old cancer survivor now battling breast cancer without adequate insurance or paid leave. Mercy’s resilience has always inspired me, and I’m determined to help her get the treatment she urgently needs.
Mercy is a fighter. At 35 years old, she’s already overcome more challenges than most of us could imagine in a lifetime. But now, she’s facing another daunting battle—one she cannot fight alone. Just a month ago, Mercy was diagnosed with breast cancer, and she urgently needs your help to fund her treatment and recovery.
Mercy’s Story of Survival
Mercy’s journey with cancer began when she was only 6.5 years old. She was diagnosed with myofibrosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer. By the time it was discovered, the disease had already spread, leaving her as the only survivor among seven children in the United States being treated for the same condition.
From her early years through middle school, Mercy endured countless hospital visits, surgeries, and rounds of chemotherapy. Even in high school, her days were filled with hospital stays for reconstructive surgeries. Her jawbone, ravaged by the disease, had to be replaced—first with bone from her hip, which failed, and later with bone from her tibia, which finally succeeded.
These treatments, while life-saving, came at an incredible cost. Mercy and her family were left with over $700,000 in medical debt, even after negotiations and pro bono assistance. They’ve worked tirelessly to pay it off and only recently managed to close that painful chapter of their lives.
A New Battle
Now, Mercy is facing yet another fight—this time against breast cancer. As a part-time contractor, Mercy is in a uniquely challenging position:
She doesn’t have access to paid time off, meaning every day spent in treatment or recovery is a day without income.
Her insurance provides minimal coverage and will not pay for the majority of her care, including essential diagnostic exams (such as mammograms, MRIs, biopsies, and genetic testing), surgery, and radiation therapy.
This means that nearly all her medical expenses, as well as basic life-related costs such as groceries, transportation, and out-of-pocket medical bills during recovery, will need to be paid entirely out of pocket. Mercy is now in a race against time to secure the funds she needs to start radiation therapy, which requires an upfront payment she simply cannot afford.
How You Can Help
Mercy is determined to fight, but she can’t do it alone. The funds raised will be used to cover:
Diagnostic Exams: Mammograms, MRIs, biopsies, and genetic testing.
Surgery: Life-saving procedures to remove the cancer.
Radiation Therapy: Critical treatments to prevent the cancer from returning.
Living Essentials: Groceries, utilities, and basic needs while she’s unable to work.
Transportation: To and from her medical appointments.
Our goal is to raise $50,000 to give Mercy the chance she deserves to fight this battle without the overwhelming financial strain that comes with it.
Why Mercy Matters
Mercy is more than her battles. She’s a kind, resilient soul who has inspired everyone around her with her strength and positivity. Despite everything she’s faced, she’s remained hopeful and driven, always striving to create a better future for herself. Now, she needs our help to make that future possible.
Every Dollar Counts
Your support—whether it’s a donation, a share of her story, or words of encouragement—means the world to Mercy. Together, we can help her through this fight and remind her that she’s not alone.
Let’s come together to give Mercy the chance she needs to win this battle and start the next chapter of her life, cancer-free.
