Who we are
Hi, my name is Amy, and I’m the proud (and very lucky) mom of Mercury—the sweetest, most loving dog you could ever meet. We believe Mercury had a rough start in life and may have experienced trauma before he came to us. But despite it all, he’s gentle, loyal, and deeply affectionate. He loves belly rubs, staying close, and making new friends—both human and canine. His love language is definitely closeness.
⚠️What Happened
Recently, Mercury had a serious medical emergency. We discovered he had chewed and swallowed part of a ceramic chopstick, and sharp fragments made their way into his stomach and intestines. When we rushed him to the emergency vet, imaging revealed multiple risks: perforation, blockage, and internal damage.
We’ve already spent $2,000+ on emergency care—this included imaging, sedation, medication, and monitoring. Our vet recommended a last-chance non-surgical option: putting Mercury on a specialized canned food that might help coat and cushion the shards and guide them through his digestive system safely. This approach is being done under close observation, and the next few days are critical.
⚠️ What’s Still at Risk
Even with this effort, emergency surgery may still be necessary. Some fragments may not show up on imaging, and there’s a real chance one could still perforate or block his organs. If Mercury worsens at any point, we’ll need to rush him into surgery.
To make things even harder, Mercury also struggles with severe anxiety and PTSD, likely from past abuse. We had been saving for a trauma-informed behavioral training program to help him heal, but that fund is now going toward emergency care.
If he ends up needing surgery, this behavioral training will become even more urgent—our vet stressed that recovery without it could be dangerous, both physically and emotionally.
♥ How Your Donation Will Help:
- Cover potential emergency surgery ($3,000–$4,000)
- Fund behavioral rehab and trauma-informed training ($3,000)
- Ensure Mercury gets the long-term care he needs to truly thrive
Whether Mercury needs surgery or not, your support will go directly toward the emergency care he’s already received and the critical training he still needs to heal fully.
⏳ We’re on a Timeline
Please share if you can—we’re watching Mercury closely. If the specialized diet doesn’t work, new imaging and potential surgery will take place as soon as July 21 or 22—or even sooner if an emergency arises.
If we’re fortunate enough to exceed our goal, we’ll donate any remaining funds to Lake County Animal Shelter in Orlando, where Mercury got his second chance at life.
We’ll post frequent updates so you can follow Mercury’s progress and recovery. Thank you so much for reading, donating, sharing, or simply sending love our way.
With gratitude,
Amy, Geoffrey & Mercury
