Help Mercedes “Mercy” get a kidney transplant

Alicia Swait and Reynaldo Vega and many others are organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my sister Mercedes Rodríguez, who is best known as Mercy.
Anyone who has ever met my sister will quickly say that she is the true meaning of unselfishness and unconditional love. Her radiant smile is for everyone-- friends as well as strangers, and she's always ready to distribute hugs and provide a loving hand to anyone who may need it. All her life, she has tried to follow the teachings of St. Francis of Assisi. Her loving and joyful disposition have never given away her state of health. She is my sister, but she is a real angel to me, and to so many people. She is walking sunshine; always positive, warm and kind. She exudes love and kindness, a teacher by example and believes in the oneness of all humanity and the importance of respecting and cherishing God's creatures, Mother Earth, honoring God. Mercy is a skillful writer, vocalist and painter. She is a natural speaker with abilities to inform, mesmerize and contain crowds. When up on stage , people can sense her loving spirit. She is my best friend and and I know she is a great and wonderful friend too so many more.
Mercy's life has been filled with health chalenges., a quick health recap and you will see why. Besides the normal foot and wrist fractures while growing up, Mercy has had three separate cancers and has undergone surgery for each of them (mastectomy, splenectomy, hysterectomy). She has had an appendectomy, tonsillectomy laparoscopic hernia surgery, ports, dialysis fistulas and grafts, ulcers, and even a full shoulder replacement. In addition she has had several blood transfusions, hep-c (cured), as well as severe pneumonia; and now in renal
failure. She has been on dialysis for four years. Throughout these illnesses and operations, and even now through her kidney failure she remains the most positive person I've ever known, with an eternal beautiful smile on her face, and grateful for everything she's been given. Ask her how she's feeling and the response is always, “I am doing good and I feel GREAT”.
My sister’s spirit is genuinely beautiful and bright. She never complains, never feels down nor depressed. She never gives up; she loves life and people. Mercy is considered a candidate for a kidney transplant thru UCHealth Cincinnati, Ohio. It is because of her strength, her personality, and so much more that I have volunteered to become her living kidney donor. However, before she can receive the kidney, she must complete several tests and procedures including deep dental cleaning and oral surgery. Mercy receives dialysis at Fresenius Kidney Care West Dayton, Ohio. She says that the entire staff and the physicians are absolutely wonderful, caring and like a family to her. Mercy is at CKD 5 which is also known as the end-stage of kidney failure meaning the kidneys can no longer filter out waste from her body. She is in urgent need of a kidney transplant of which I hope to become her donor with God’s help.
My hope is that thru the GoFundMe page/organization we will be able to raise funds to pay for dialysis, dental procedures, and a hotel near hospital for the first month after the transplant, for doctor visits and bloodwork. The funds will also pay for medication for her first and maybe second year after transplant.
