Joy-Based Jewish Ritual decoupled from zionism in New Haven, CT

Mending Minyan is a liberation-based Jewish havurah based on the occupied lands of the Quinnipiac & Paugussett people (New Haven, CT). We are non-zionist, anti-zionist diasporic Jews and friends of Jews. We practice joy-based Jewish ritual decoupled from zionism. We have been part of the Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) Havurah Network since 2018. As a growing Jewish community in southwestern Connecticut, we need funding to sustain and expand our programs!

We're Growing!

As we enter our fourth year of existence, our lay-led community is thrilled to welcome rabbinical student May Ye for a year-long internship.

If you don’t already know, May Ye is a Chinese-American Jew. She is entering her sixth and final year at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Philadelphia, PA. She is moving to New Haven in June 2022 and will be completing her studies remotely as she works with Mending Minyan and as a chaplain intern at Yale New Haven Health. As a rabbinical student, May has worked as a rabbinic intern at Tzedek Chicago, for Aurora Levins Morales on new liturgy that centers the voices of indigenous Jews and Jews of Color, and as a climate justice fellow with POWER, an interfaith social justice organization in Philadelphia. She is the founder of the Person of Color Havurah at Kol Tzedek Synagogue and of Min Hameitzar: A National Network of Jews of Color Havurot. May organized with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), Philadelphia chapter, as a member of the steering committee and chair of the ritual committee and she is honored to sit on JVP’s national rabbinical council. She also volunteers as a movement chaplain. In May 2022 she will receive the Tikkun Olam award from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College “for her inspiring & passionate Palestine Liberation rabbinate and  for connecting our politics to the way that we pray.”

During her internship year with Mending Minyan, May will guide our community in deepening our ritual practices, provide spiritual care and support to our community members, and facilitate life cycle events. We can think of no one better to help us to grow into our dreams as we nourish a Judaism beyond zionism, in support of struggles against white supremacy, capitalism, and colonization. A dream that centers “‘Jews on the margin,” including but not limited to Black and Brown, Queer, Trans, Disabled, poor/working class, Jews by choice, Sephardic, and Mizrahi Jews.

We need your support

We need your help to support May during her internship and to sustain our community-based Jewish holiday celebrations, bi-monthly Shabbat services, website and local organizing!

For the past two years, Mending Minyan’s programs have been sustained by a generous grant for growing community organizations, but we must now seek out alternative ways of financially sustaining our community. As we launch our first fundraiser, we hope that you will donate to support the vision and practice of Mending Minyan as we do the collective work of disentangling Judaism from zionism while cultivating a loving and radical Jewish community.
