Help Mend Tavern on Jane

We, The Friends of Tavern, are seeking to raise funds to help with repair costs necessary following the discovery of a gas leak at 31 8th Avenue (which affected the restaurant) on October 23 of this year.  Tavern on Jane, established in 1995 and located in the West Village, is housed in a building built in 1842; the restaurant itself having once been a horse paddock.  Because the gas has been shut off to the entire building, all new electrical appliances, heaters and water heaters had to be purchased and  installed to keep the place up and running.  In addition to the anticipated higher than usual electric bills, an architect was hired to create new repair plans, a plumber to deal with new piping, an electrician was needed to increase the power grids for the now "all electric" kitchen and an expediter was needed to deal with permits. 

Tavern on Jane has been not only a neighborhood go-to frequented by locals, tourists and celebrities alike, but also a friend to its neighbors donating its time, food and money to local organizations such as "Friends of the Bleecker Street Playground", the "Jane Street Block Association", "Health and Fitness at Westbeth" (through Grove Pharmacy) and many local public schools.

The owner, Michael Stewart, also lends his time and Tavern's services to charitable organizations such as "Taste of the NFL", the "Crohn's and Colitis Foundation" and "The Family Service League" (aka Kristy's Smile).

In addition, as a thank-you to Tavern's friends and customers, Michael throws a free neighborhood block party every October where he provides hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad and drinks for all, pony rides and face painting for the children and a live band to entertain the annual gathering.

The Friends of Tavern would like to return the favor now by helping Tavern on Jane get back on its feet.  Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
