On October 17, 2026, Gemyia “Meme” Bowman, Carolyn’s daughter, was one of three victims in the Laney High School Homecoming shooting. Meme is a Laney graduate, a former Albany State basketball player, a master’s graduate in Criminal Justice, a federal teacher, and a youth coach who has spent so much of life pouring into others. Now, after this heartbreaking act of violence, Meme is facing a long and difficult recovery, and Carolyn is asking for support as their family walks through this painful time together.
Donations will help cover the many expenses that come with Meme’s healing, including medical care, physical therapy, transportation, follow-up appointments, rent, daily expenses, and lost income while she recovers and Carolyn cares for her. Every gift, no matter the size, will help ease some of the burden and give Meme the support needed to focus on healing. Please keep Meme and the whole family in your prayers. If you are able, please consider donating or sharing this fundraiser. Every contribution and every share truly makes a difference, and Carolyn is deeply grateful for your love, kindness, and support.
