My name is Melquan, and I’m reaching out because I’m facing a medical crisis that has turned my world upside down. I was recently diagnosed with a severe retinal detachment in my left eye. After numerous tests, my doctors have told me I need three surgeries: the first to address cataracts, and the next two to reattach my retina. Right now, I have only 20 percent vision in my left eye, and the road to recovery will be long and challenging.
Because of this, I’ll be out of work for a while. My recovery will require special equipment, including a specific type of bed so I can lay down for at least 16 hours a day to heal properly. The costs of surgery, equipment, and everyday living expenses are overwhelming. I really don’t have a village of my own, and the few people I do have in my corner can only do so much—they have their own lives and responsibilities, too. My support system is small—just my partner and a few of her family members. I’m doing my best to stay hopeful, but I can’t do this alone.
If you’re able to donate or even share my story with others, it would mean the world to me. Your support will help me get the care I need and give me a chance to recover my sight and my life. Thank you for reading and for any help you can give.
