Help Melody Recover and Rebuild After a Near-Fatal Illness
Donation protected
Hi y'all,
I'm setting up this GoFundMe on behalf of Kai and his family, specifically for his mom, Melody—a loving mom, grandma, and lifelong badass who’s spent a decade working for a well known media company, chasing hurricanes to keep the public informed and safe. Now, she’s facing a storm of her own—and she needs our help.
Recently, Melody suffered a series of serious medical issues that led to sepsis, neurological issues, and memory issues, leaving her in critical condition. She’s thankfully stabilized, but recovery will be long and intense. She’ll require ongoing care in a medical facility, along with physical therapy, medication, and cognitive rehabilitation to regain her strength and independence.
Her children—Cassidy, Eve, and Kai—have dropped everything to care for her. All three work in the service industry and are doing everything they can, but the financial toll is immense. One daughter is raising two young kids of her own. The family has no insurance coverage to fall back on, and Melody’s condition means she can no longer work. On top of mounting hospital bills, they’re also juggling Melody’s lost income, transportation costs, travel for her kids who don’t live in Austin, and the emotional weight of caregiving.
The already daunting numbers we’re seeing for long-term medical care and rehabilitation are staggering—and continuing to grow. We’re raising funds to help cover:
- Hospital and current rehabilitation bills
- Medical transportation and equipment
- Caregiver support and time away from work
- Long-term rehabilitation and therapy
Melody is a fighter—but she and her family can’t do this alone. Every donation helps lighten the load and brings this incredible woman one step closer to recovery.
If you're able to give, it would mean the world to us but we totally understand if you cannot. And if a donation isn’t possible right now, sharing her story and sending prayers or healing thoughts is just as appreciated!
With love and gratitude,
Cassidy, Kai, Evey, and Alex
