Help Melody Pond Fight FIP

This summer our family met and fell in love with two kittens that we adopted from the local animal shelter. One of these kittens we named Melody Pond, for her singsong voice and our love of Doctor Who. Melody loves to ask for a pet with a chirp and a loud rumbling purr. She’s a beautiful kitten who enjoys playing with her sister Wonder Wiggy and giving us all the affection she can.

We noticed Melody having some health problems.  We brought her to a vet, who gave us antibiotics and sent us on our way. She did not get better.  The vet then tried giving Melody an enema two days in a row. She continued to get worse. After several visits we got a 2nd opinion from another vet, who found a stricture. Also her blood work was a cause for concern. The vet told us she needed surgery right away to fix the issue with the stricture so she went through an exploratory abdominal surgery where the surgeon discovered severely swollen lymph nodes in Melody’s intestines.  The vet suggested that this may caused by both Lymphoma and/or Feline Infectious Peritonitis, also known as FIP, and we were told that this condition is fatal to cats. The vet gave us the option of euthanasia which we simply couldn't bring ourselves to do without knowing for sure that there were no other options. Even the idea of it was just heartbreaking. Two weeks later we found out that the biopsy results showed these were not cancerous – and the vet confirmed that Melody is suffering from dry FIP on December 19th.

FIP is a rare but deadly feline disease. For many years there was no hope of treatment for this condition. However, clinical studies have shown that there are experimental drugs that can cure this disease with a 95% success rate. We have joined FIP support groups to help educate ourselves about this disease and the treatment options, and to connect to a community where we can access these drugs.

These drugs are very expensive. We have already spent a significant amount of money just in the vet visits leading up the diagnosis of FIP. We normally would not ask for money, but we want this chance to help save Melody. At only 8 months old, she is the sweetest, most loving kitty, and she still has her whole life ahead of her if she can beat this disease.

We set up this goal as the current calculated costs of the drugs (which require a 12 week treatment), alongside the vet visits and blood work required to monitor her health under treatment. We appreciate any donation that we receive to help make this a possibility and give Melody a chance at life. Shares are also a valuable contribution.

We will make updates as her treatment progresses.

Thank you so very much
