I met Melody when we were in a parenting support group together with our firstborns. Twenty-five years later, Melody is a single mom of three young adult children, and she just found out that she has metastatic ovarian cancer and has begun hospice care. She is expecting to live for less than a month. No one is deserving of such a diagnosis, but this is particularly upsetting, as Melody is one of the kindest people I know.

She has faced many challenges in her life and has been struggling to make ends meet. With her new diagnosis, she needs help paying for medical and funeral/cremation expenses. She does not want to financially burden her kids, who are just launching and/or still in school and are dealing with so much already.

The photo of Melody and her daughter was taken just a week before her diagnosis. The matching tattoos were designed by her daughter in honor of Melody's mother who died of ovarian cancer herself.
