My name is Melissa and I’m a single mom to a talented and beautiful teen. In December, she slipped on the floor of a public bathroom and hit her head so hard it knocked her out and life hasn’t been the same. The traumatic brain injury caused so much confusion, change in personality, and the inability to have her be alone. I tried to continue working, leaning on friends and taking her with me on days I didn’t have any help. My work guaranteed it was ok with them. In February, I was let go from a career I loved because I had an “unauthorized guest” at work. She couldn’t go to school because the pain was so severe and the confusion and light and sound sensitivity caused more issues each day. Once I was let go, my landlord made the decision and asked us to leave. We packed everything we owned in a week and moved it into storage. I went from having a healthy and happy daughter and a successful career to having someone who needed extra care and losing everything. I am door dashing and Ubering to try to stay above water. We have found a new home in a new town, with a specialized school for my daughter and a good job waiting for me. We just need some help getting back on our feet. The medical bills are extreme and we are drowning. Thank you will never be enough but I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
