Hi! My name is Melissa and I've taken on a community cat colony project near where I live. This summer I saw a post on a Facebook group page from the daughter-in-law of a 79 year old lady who has been feeding a colony of cats for years at her apartment complex, she has rehomed many kittens, but it's gotten overwhelming. Her daughter-in-law was asking for help with TNR (Trap Neuter Release) to curb the yearly litters of kittens. I watched the post to see if any established rescues or groups would step up to assist in some way, but every place the daughter-in-law called or tried to connect with were unable to help. So I decided to check out the situation, meet the caregiver and see if she and I could come up with a plan to TNR this colony. A plan was born to TNR as many of these cats as possible. We've gotten donations of returnable bottles/cans, the residents at the complex (all 55+ with fixed incomes) have donated what they could, I've campaigned on my personal social media page and gotten a few donations, but we still have about 8-10 cats to trap plus 2 kittens I've been nursing back to health at my house. I've personally sponsored 3-4 TNR cats to be spayed/neutered, I drive the cats to and from the clinic and keep them for 2-3 days before releasing them back. In addition, I've covered the extra medical care the kittens have needed. We've TNR'd 16 cats thus far, but we need some extra help to keep moving this forward.
The clinic that performs the spay/neuter is $50 per cat. Included in the package, the cats get:
FERAL/Unowned community CAT spay/neuter package which also includes 3 in 1 vaccine, flea/earmite treatment, and a MANDATORY ear tip.
I decided to start this GoFundMe in hopes to be able to keep trapping these colony cats before Spring arrives. Any amount big or small helps!
Thank you!
Melissa
