Hello! My name is Melissa. I am a cancer warrior! I was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia about 3 years ago. It is an incurable cancer. The standard course of treatment is with a TKI, like a pill form of chemotherapy. There are 5 acceptable TKIs and I have gone through 2. I have had to stop both due to adverse reactions.
Unfortunately, one of the side effects from the CML and the TKI is dental damage. I have had multiple teeth break off and am now needing dentures. Insurance doesn’t cover the cost and I haven’t been able to work to earn the money. Each day is a personal struggle to accomplish even the most basic tasks. Some days are better than others. But now I am facing this expensive dental procedure and can’t afford it. I have set up an appointment for January 7th to start the dental work, despite not having the funds. I just can’t face this any longer and I have faith that God will provide the way, through your generosity.
I am mortified to be seen. The picture above is prior to my front teeth breaking off. When I go anywhere or anyone comes to my home, I wear a mask. I know vanity is a sin, but this is too much. I lost my hair and I wasn’t this embarrassed. It grew back white and curly. I have embraced that. But my smile… that is something different. I don’t want to live behind a mask.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Your contribution would be immensely appreciated. I hope you find it in your heart to help me smile again. God bless you!
