Help Melissa Rebuild After Tragic Fire Loss

**update: Melissa has found a 2 bedroom, so instead of hotel costs we’re going to put funds towards deposit costs, refurnishing, getting appliances & food for her new home. ❤️

Today my best friend, Melissa, tragically lost her home & two pets, a husky, Indica & a sweet kitty, Daisy, in a house fire. Thankfully she and her 3 children were not home at the time of the fire & we are so thankful for that. Unfortunately she has lost everything but a few salvaged items & pictures. She will need help with food, hotel, clothing & future home costs. Red Cross is already helping with what they can these next few days. I’ve shared pictures & the article released by Caribou Fire Department below. “Today, June 24th, at approximately 3:00 a.m, Caribou Fire & Ambulance was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 201 Old Washburn Road in Caribou.

Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire in one corner of a trailer-style home. Thanks to quick action, firefighters were able to contain the bulk of the flames to that section. Due to the home sustaining significant smoke and water damage throughout, it will be considered a total loss.

Tragically, two pets were lost in the fire. All occupants were safely out of the home at the time of the incident. The Red Cross is assisting those displaced.

This fire was fought under extremely high humid weather conditions and with critically low Paid Call and Career staffing levels, requiring support from six mutual aid departments.

The scene has been turned over to the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office for investigation.
