Help Melissa Fight Breast Cancer and Support Her Family

On November 18, 2024, Melissa Smith Jordan received the devastating news of being diagnosed with stage 1 triple-negative breast cancer - the same type of cancer that her mother, Karen Shuyler Smith, battled just 3 years ago.

This GoFundMe has been put together by Melissa’s brother, Garrett. My sister is known for her incredible kindness and thoughtfulness, and I am hoping to be there to support her like she has always done for me.

At just 32 years old, Melissa, beloved daughter, niece, sister, friend, wife, and mother to Callan (1 yr 7 mo) and Claire (8 mo), will have a difficult journey ahead. Her cancer is incredibly aggressive, so she will be starting treatments as soon as possible. Melissa will be undergoing chemotherapy for six months, followed by a double mastectomy. Depending on her progress, radiation may also be needed.

Throughout this time, Melissa will be unable to work and her husband, Christian, will be balancing working, caring for their young children, and supporting her recovery. Melissa and Christian currently experience the financial stress that many young families do, but without two incomes they face the burden of how to manage medical bills on top of their living expenses and the daily costs of raising a baby and toddler.

We are hoping to raise $9,000 to help ease the burden of medical costs, basic living expenses, and childcare so that she can focus on her health and healing.
