Hello, Melissa is my sister and she has recently been diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. She always knew that someday she could be facing this tough journey as our family history is quite extensive in the breast cancer arena but the news still came to us as a huge shock.
She’s 33 years old, has been married and divorced and unfortunately has not yet been blessed to have a child. Melissa’s cancer treatment consist of a bilateral mastectomy followed by chemo and radiation. Her mastectomy was a success - thank God - no complications or issues other than the normal side effects of being put under anesthesia and waking up to a wave of constant pain and vomiting.
Now that she has crossed the bridge of surgery, her Oncologist has informed her that she will need to undergo chemo/radiation. This has her and all of us completely distraught. Melissa knew that the second they brought up the other C word (chemo) (first one is Cancer), HER OPPORTUNITY TO EVER HAVE CHILDREN WAS SLIPPING AWAY. She is now facing the need to do a fertility treatment, chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy and chemotherapy with medications.
Not only she is going through a very difficult time mentally and physically, she is also facing the financial burden a cancer diagnosis can inflict on someone’s life.
She is scheduled to start chemo July 3rd and we are hanging on a prayer.
For many years, Melissa has been a great support to her family. To undergo everything that is happening and having to go on unpaid leave.... now she is the one in need of our support.
