Disclaimer: Your friendship means more than money to Melissa, we are doing this strictly out of wanting to help but not knowing what to do. If you do not have the means to donate please send her a text to let her know you’re thinking about her.
Our dear friend Melissa, 39 years young, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer that has aggressively and rapidly spread to her liver and into her bones. Anyone who knows Melissa knows that she is kind, loyal, and (this goes without saying) active. Seeing her not able to play volleyball or softball, two of her favorite pastimes, breaks our hearts and we want to do everything we can to get her back playing with us again.
Everything has happened quickly, what started as back pain escalated into a trip to the emergency room and she is now currently at Emory Hospital receiving treatment. Both of her parents have come to town from Long Island, New York assisting in every way they can which we know is even more difficult with the added stress of the pandemic.
While Melissa is still in the middle of treatments, the hope is for her to quickly return home but with quite a few changes needing to be made. Her room will essentially need to become a hospital room where she can hopefully recover quickly and rest with more comfort. While we all want to visit her and wish her well, the next best thing we can do is make sure she is comfortable in her own home. Your donation will go towards medical expenses and supplies, but any money not used, Melissa will donate to charitable foundations like American Cancer Society.
We wish Melissa a full recovery so we can all see her in her natural element of working hard at the CDC and playing league sports again and snuggling her cat Sam, until then please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
