Help Melissa Continue 2 Help Others
Donation protected
This fundraiser is for Melissa Dillon Seal, a veteran of the Air National Guard who stepped up to help the people of southern Louisiana during the storm of the century in August 2016 when over 100,000 homes were flooded.
Melissa was featured in local media (see video at the end) for her heroic efforts to collect donations for 19 shelters in the affected area, numerous rescues, and multiple families.
In addition, she personally took in and cared for 32 displaced dogs, 15 cats, 6 pigs and 2 miniature horses that otherwise would have perished as a result of the flood. She distributed more than 10,000 pounds of livestock and horse feed, 150,000 pounds of dog/cat food in addition to other supplies such as leashes, crates, harness, etc. While working day and night to aid her community, Melissa was dealing with her own issues including the effects of a stroke, multiple serious medical conditions such as Crohn’s disease with gastroparesis that requires a gastric pacemaker, cardiac dysrhythmias requiring a cardiac pacemaker, and now is in need of brain surgery for Arnold Chiari malformation which is a structural defect in the brain.
Now Melissa is being evicted from her home just 2 days before Veterans Day.
She has a broken jaw from being kicked by a donkey and is going through medical evaluation as she is a high risk surgical candidate to repair her brain defect and now must deal with trying to find a place to live and house her own personal animals or re-home them.
On this Election Day, let us show our true American spirit by standing up for someone who stood for others even when she was dealing with tremendous personal issues. Let us demonstrate what we want America to be regardless of our political party: strong, kind and caring and let’s support this amazing woman who served our country, our communities, and our national principles.
Let's help Melissa one donation at a time! She singlehandedly galvanized people, truckers and communities to help those in need. Now SHE and her beloved animals face homelessness!
In August after the devastating storm in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she felt helpless. She took to Facebook and just posted info & pics of she and others rescuing the animals from the flood so people could see what was happening. It was there that she asked for one simple thing: For people to donate a bag of pet food to local shelters who were impacted by this historic storm.
The post was shared over 50,000 times on Facebook and it went completely viral. It was also covered by local media and national news outlets that picked up the story. If just a few of those people can help Melissa, she can live out her life with her animals and continue to selflessly dedicate her life to others.
God how He could use her to help others in a way that pleased Him. The public answered and thousands were helped. It helped her believe in herself and her value again.
To her shock, Melissa was told she needed to vacate the home and land she lives on. She was informed on Monday, 11/7 and needs to be out by tomorrow, 11/9. As a disabled veteran on a fixed income, Melissa doesn't know where she will go but she has faith and she has friends which is why we are stepping up to help her find a place to live and still take her beloved animals.
We are respectfully requesting any size donations that will help Melissa get back on land somewhere in any of the following parishes:
Washington, Tangipahoa, St Tammany, Livingston, Ascension or St Helena.
All she needs to live on with her animals is a minimum of five acres. Melissa will be bringing:
Her four personal dogs (one who survived a deadly spider bite) , the 5 remaining rescue dogs (1 & maybe 2 are leaving Fri, so it'll be 3-4) 2 horses, 2 mini horses, 5 potbelly pigs, 5 goats, 2 sheep and a pair of geese and a barn cat.
This is a woman who impacted THOUSANDS of others.
During and after the flood in Baton Rouge, she took in 32 dogs, 15 cats, 6 pigs and 2 mini horses, plus housed many others until they could go home
She organized and moved over 150,000 pounds of donated cat & dog food alone (not counting treats, collars, leashes, litter, etc.) She was able to provide supplies to 19 shelters a bunch of rescues and dozens of families from the donations we received
She and the volunteers she organized distributed about 2,000 square bales of hay and about 10,000 pounds of livestock & horse feed.
