Help Melissa Cason Recover from Surgery Complications

Hello friends and family, my name is Melissa Cason. I recently had a mommy makeover surgery on Feb 4. I have not been recovering well from the procedure. A week after I got home, I began spiking a fever and pus was oozing from the surgical site, and it opened up in two places under my belly. On Valentine’s Day, hubby had to rush me to the Mayo Clinic for sepsis, put on IV antibiotics, and wound cleaning. Then, the last week of February, I had to return to Miami to have my drains removed so they could monitor my healing with daily wound care from the post-op nurse for 8 days and to take more antibiotics for 2 more weeks. My primary care doctor referred me to Baptist Hospital wound care to have a wound vacuum attached to help the healing process speed up. My insurance only covered half of the rental of the wound vacuum, which will cost me $300 a month for the next 3 months.

I’ve depleted my savings having to pay for the extra costs of Airbnb, food, medications, gas, and wound care supplies. I’m pleading with everyone to help me cover the costs of the wound vac and sponges for the dressings. I’ve worked over the last 5 years helping others in my community by educating on overdose prevention and boots-to-the-ground harm reduction outreach program with little or no funding, running off of coffee and compassion alongside my best friends, Nikki and Solana. Unfortunately, I am not able to work, and I am grateful to any and all who have helped this far. I am trying not to be depressed or feel defeated, but I didn’t expect my surgery to come out botched, and I’ve been taking care of myself the best I can.
