Hi, my name is Melissa. I’m reaching out for help during an extremely vulnerable and urgent moment. I am scared, but I am also hopeful that with support and faith, this season can turn around.

This year has brought unexpected medical and financial hardships. From December to early February, I was on medical leave and received only 60% of my pay. Immediately after, I had a two-month unpaid medical leave while undergoing treatment for a gallbladder condition. I am grateful I avoided surgery and that, as of 10-30-2025, my gallbladder is fully healed with no stones. But those months completely depleted my small emergency savings.

When I returned to work in March 2025, I was already behind, and every month since has been a fight to stay afloat. I have been living paycheck-to-paycheck, constantly trying to catch up on major bills, and receiving intent-to-evict notices every month this year. I am deeply thankful that my apartment management works with me, and I always follow through on the payment arrangements made.

At the end of October, I was laid off. I am a single mother to a medically complex, disabled child. His accessible van is essential for appointments, therapies, and our daily living. Losing our housing or losing the van would be devastating, especially during the coldest months of the year in Minnesota.

Why I’m Asking for Help

I believe deeply in mutual aid and in the power of community. Over the years I have helped others through financial seeds. I am grateful for every family member, friend, and even strangers have lifted me up with love and support. Asking publicly like this is very difficult, but this is a true emergency and I cannot stabilize things alone.
