Help Melissa and Surya Pay Medical Emergency Bills

Hi, I’m Deirdre and I’m helping organize a fundraiser my cousin Melissa and her son Surya. Surya just graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in Kansas and has been preparing for college in the fall. On June 8, Surya was in a terrible accident that left him with a fractured left arm, shattered left wrist and 3 broken fingers. His jaw bone broke in 4 places. A part of the broken jaw bone splintered off and perforated his ear and shattered his chin bone and cheek bone. He also lost 2 bottom teeth. He will need multiple surgeries, as well as a lot of rehabilitation, the extent of his treatment is unknown at this time. It will be a long, slow, painful process to recovery.

He was going to start college in the fall, but that will be delayed due to the seriousness of his injuries. Melissa is self-employed and does not have medical insurance and Surya needs multiple surgeries; Melissa and Surya will not be able to afford all the medical bills.

If you know Melissa, you know she is the hardest working person with the biggest heart. She is the person who would give you the shirt off her back, if you needed it. In her work, she has lived by her vision and philosophy of paying her employees living wages, even though she doesn’t *have* to, giving them a chance at a dignified life. She is a good person and she raised a really amazing son. Surya is a kind and thoughtful young man, who was finding his way and path. He worked 2 jobs while doing well in high school and bought his own car. He is reliable, solid in who he is and just a really good kid.

Can you please help donate whatever you are able, so that Melissa and Surya can focus on his healing and getting better rather than the overwhelming stress of paying high medical bills. Melissa is always there for people when they need her, and now she really needs people to be here for her and Surya. We are hoping family, friends and the kindness of strangers can help get them through this horrible time.
