This is truly mortifying, but I must put it out there to the universe.
My landlord is named Sarah Chase. She runs a scam on the older people in the community. We each pay for land, but Chase is over-billing, then threatening anyone who inquires. As a result, most residents overpay.
I confronted her about it.
In retaliation, she began a now years-long retaliation, attempting unsuccessfully to evict me 5-6 times.
Last summer, she stopped cashing my rent checks (without my knowledge), then claimed I had not paid rent. I was recently evicted based on that false narrative. My belongings are still in the home.
More than one law firm has agreed to take my case, but I must deliver a retainer first.
I’ve gone broke replacing my belongings, paying legal consult fees, and living with my dog and cat in hotels.
Absurd as it is, Chase’s actions have me barred from the home I own. I am under considerable stress, which exacerbates the chronic pain disorder l’ve lived with for 15 years.
After paying for basic necessities—everything from toothpaste to shoes to pet food—and trying to secure legal help, I am now completely out of funds. Tonight is my last night of paid lodging, and I don’t know where we will go next.
I am trying to regain access to my home so I can sell it and stabilize my situation, but I cannot do that without a lawyer. The lowest retainer I’ve been quoted is $8,500, which is far beyond what I can afford.
What your support would help cover:
- Emergency lodging ($95–$150 per night)
- Care for myself and my pets
- Legal representation to regain access to my home
- Basic living expenses during this crisis
I am asking for help not just to get through the next few days, but to find a path forward.
If you’re an animal lover, a disability advocate, or someone who understands how quickly life can change, I hope my story resonates with you.
Any donation, no matter the size, would mean more than I can express. And if you’re unable to give, sharing this page would help tremendously.
