Help Melissa and Her Boys Heal from Domestic Violence

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Lisa. My daughter Melissa is a domestic violence survivor. I am not generally one to reach out for help, so this is difficult for me to write. I hope this story can help save someone else that may find themselves in a situation like this. I never dreamed that this is where their 10 year relationship would come to. On the morning of Halloween 2024, my 18 month old grandson, Elliott, and Melissa were brutally attacked by her husband with an axe while they were in the kitchen. She was 6 months pregnant with their second child at the time of the attack.
Melissa's injuries included a skull fracture which required surgery to clean and suture her scalp. She has a broken leg and a shattered knee cap, which required surgical repair. She has a broken wrist which needed surgical repair, and nerve damage in her right hand and fingers from a deep laceration. She will probably have more surgeries and a long period of time unable to bear weight on these limbs. The trauma of the attack also triggered premature labor and other pregnancy complications, which now requires extra medical monitoring until little Arthur is born.
Elliott's injuries included a liver lesion and bruised lungs and ribs. He has a broken left arm, which needed wires and surgical repair. His left hand has nerve damage due to a deep laceration and may need future nerve surgery. He has a broken right arm. He has a skull fracture with a brain bleed.
They are so blessed to be alive due to her determination to reach the phone, the timeliness of the arrival of law enforcement, and the medical care they received. Elliott and Melissa have a long road of recovery ahead of them. They are moving forward in their recovery with our help. Mike and I have been unable to work in order to provide total daily care to both of them due to their physical limitations. Therefore, we have come to the point that we need support and assistance during their recovery. I write this to ask for your support, because at this time she cannot help support her own family as we do everything to support her and her boys. The medical bills will be a large amount for the 3 of them throughout this journey.
As mentioned earlier, I hope this story helps those that are currently living through their own story of domestic violence. 1 in 4 women are victims of severe violence from a partner at some point in their lives. Please read her story and know that this does not have to happen to you.
