In the winter of 2023, Melinda came into my life during a very distressful family loss. As one of my mother’s co-workers, Melinda showed up with her resilient aura of care to help my mother navigate the loss of her son. In the hazy memory of those days of grief, I can remember clearly the outpouring of love and care that came from Melinda and the people of Hanna’s House. Melinda’s unwavering love and support during those dark days were a beacon of hope and strength. Melinda’s presence shined like a lighthouse in my dark sea of grief, showing me that even those navigating their own storms can still be a powerful beacon of love and support. Melinda, a loving wife and mother of three sons, has dedicated 31 years to Hanna’s House Foster Family Agency, tirelessly working to reunite families and help find homes for children. She is a devoted member of her church and infuses her work and life with her love for God. Now, faced with the recurrence of cancer, she is not only dealing with the physical and emotional toll but also the financial burden of treatment.

In the summer of 2022, Melinda noticed something was wrong. By autumn, a tumor was discovered, and her doctors recommended an immediate biopsy. Shortly thereafter a surgery was completed which led to her remission. However, in the fall of 2023, she received devastating news: her cancer had advanced to stage four. Despite having insurance, the costs of surgery, medications, and alternative treatments continue to rise. Melinda is taking a holistic approach to her recovery, making significant lifestyle changes to fight this disease.
