Hi, my name is Kimberly, and I’m organizing this fundraiser for my dear friend, Melia. She is an incredible person who has been living with muscular dystrophy, specifically a form known as mitochondrial myopathy, for years. Now, she urgently needs a new wheelchair to maintain her independence and quality of life.

Mitochondrial myopathy affects the mitochondria, the part of her cells responsible for producing energy. Because her muscles don’t get enough energy, they become progressively weaker over time. Melia relies on her wheelchair every day, but her current wheelchair is already broken and no longer safe or functional. Unfortunately, her insurance has denied coverage for a replacement, leaving her without a reliable way to get around.

The new chair she needs is essential not only for her mobility and health but also for her ability to attend critical medical appointments. Without a safe and functional wheelchair, she is unable to get to her doctors, which is impacting her overall well-being.
