Help Melanie Battle Stage III Cancer
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Melanie and I am battling stage III breast cancer. I recently moved to Portugal from the United States for greater safety, affordable cost of living and to learn more about my ancestors. Within two weeks of being here, I felt a strange lump in my right breast. After obtaining a biopsy, I received an envelope in the mail. I learned that I had invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC).
Healthcare in Europe is divided into private and public arenas. Because I have not yet obtained my official temporary resident status, I was not eligible for free public healthcare and have been receiving my treatment through the private sector. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed before our private insurance waiting period was passed and am therefore paying for everything out of pocket. Medical care is much less expensive in Portugal, but nonetheless, my total out-of-pocket expenses will be around Euro 25,000 ($26,500).
Any help that you can give will be deeply appreciated, thank you so much for your consideration.
