Early Christmas morning, around 2:00 a.m., my sister Melanie went to the emergency room with severe abdominal pain. What followed was something none of us could have imagined — she was in labor with a baby she didn’t know she was pregnant with.

At 5:23 a.m., her little Christmas miracle, baby Vincent, was born weighing 8 pounds, 1 ounce. He is a happy, healthy baby boy, and we are all in absolute awe as we welcome a new member into our family. Baby Vinny certainly made a dramatic and unforgettable entrance into the world.

As joyful and miraculous as his arrival is, it was also an overwhelming shock. Cryptic pregnancies are something you hear about, but experiencing one firsthand is life-altering. Our family was completely unprepared for this sudden arrival. Melanie is the sole income for her household and had no opportunity to plan for medical expenses, baby supplies, or maternity leave.
