On August 8, 2025, Mel went in for a lumpectomy after a suspicious mammogram. It was such a small spot that we were shocked when Mel tested positive for two types of breast cancer: DCIS, which doesn't spread, was self-contained, and fully removed; and HER2-positive, a more invasive, aggressive type that requires chemo and targeted cell treatments.
After second and third opinion consults, Mel has decided to pursue treatment at UT Southwestern in Dallas. She'll undergo additional tests in October and likely start treatment sometime in November. Chip will travel back and forth every few weeks, and he and the girls will move to Texas when they come for Hudson's college graduation in December. Right now, they intend to spend much of 2026 in the greater Dallas area.
The good news? Mel's cancer was caught early (Ladies, get your mammograms!). Treatment won't be easy, but it should be effective. Doctors expect her to be cancer-free after treatment.
Funds raised here will go towards ongoing medical expenses, short and long-term housing, transportation, travel expenses, and other basic needs for the Hill family. You can also send e-gift cards through their CaringBridge site.
Please note that monetary donations or "Tributes" made on CaringBridge.org support that platform, not the Hills.
Thank you for your love, prayers, and support for the Hills!
