Hello everyone,
Our names are Cécilia and Titouan, and we're raising funds for our beloved dog Meiko, a 9-year-old Shetland Sheepdog.
For the past nine years, Meiko has been the healthiest, happiest, and most loving companion anyone could hope for. He’s always been strong, joyful, and full of life — especially compared to his little foster brother, Sparrow, who battles epilepsy and was rescued just before being euthanized. Meiko has always been the rock of our small pack.
In June this year, during a routine grooming session, we noticed a lump near Meiko’s bottom. It was a shock — he’d never had a single health issue before. After surgery to remove it, our vet gave us heartbreaking news: it was a differentiated carcinoma, a form of cancer.
We were referred to an oncologist for a CT scan, which revealed that the cancer had already spread to five nearby lymph nodes. Thankfully, no metastasis was found elsewhere, so the oncologist recommended a major surgery to remove all visible disease.
That surgery took place three weeks ago, and it was successful — all five lymph nodes were removed. Tests later confirmed they were cancerous, but for now, the visible tumors are gone.
After two surgeries, three days in the hospital, and countless appointments, the total cost has reached around £9,000, of which £8,000 was covered by insurance.
Now, Meiko’s oncologist recommends ultrasound scans every three months to monitor for metastasis — each costing about £2,000. Depending on the results, Meiko may also need long-term chemotherapy, estimated at £500 per month.
We’ve consulted several vets to find more affordable options, but sadly, these costs are consistent across clinics.
Here’s how the funds will be used:
- Follow-up ultrasound scans – £2,000 every 3 months
- Possible chemotherapy – approx. £500 per month
- Medication, recovery care, and follow-ups not covered by insurance
We’re deeply hoping that the upcoming scans will show no further disease — but if not, we want to give Meiko every chance to keep fighting.
Meiko is currently recovering like a true champion. He’s happy, eating well, and proudly wearing his bright blue recovery collar. Despite everything, he’s still making his cheerful Sheltie sounds, wagging his tail, and never losing his sparkle.
He’s not afraid to visit the vet again and again — just his usual brave, gentle self, ready to face whatever comes next.
If you can’t donate, simply sharing this page or sending a kind message means the world to us.
We’ll continue to post updates on Meiko’s progress and treatment every step of the way.
From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping us keep Meiko’s tail wagging.
With love and gratitude,
Meiko, Sparrow, Titouan and Cécilia
