Help Mei recover from hate crime
Donation protected
Last month, Mei (name changed for protection) was stabbed multiple times outside of her apartment building while taking the trash out. After escaping into a local business, 911 was called and she was rushed to the hospital where she was given over a dozen stitches. We are beyond grateful she is alive and in stable condition.
However, Mei’s recovery timeline is up in the air. This GoFundMe will give Mei the funds to support her recovery in three critical ways:
First, relocate to a new apartment in NYC. NYPD believes that this was a targeted attack and the assailant is still at large. Because of all this, she no longer feels safe living in her current neighborhood.
Second, funds for physical and psychological rehabilitation. Once the stitches come out, comprehensive PT will dictate when she’ll be able to return to her normal levels of activity. Additionally, this experience has fundamentally shattered her peace of mind and extensive cognitive therapy will be necessary to move forward from the psychological trauma.
Third, allow some time for rest from work. Mei has a physically and emotionally demanding job and will be unable to work for the foreseeable future.
We are so appreciative of the support shown so far. Healing both physically and emotionally takes time and is often a non-linear process. Ensuring she has the financial security to do so without fear of homelessness and/or losing access to the care she needs is critical. Thank you for taking the time to read, contribute, and share. It means the world to us.
