Help Mei Make Music after Harvey
I'm Emily Runde and this fundraiser is for my dear friend Mei Rui and her family, whose home (also her piano studio) was ravaged by Hurricane Harvey. It's so hard to see this happening from far away (I'm based in NYC) and to not be able to give Mei and her family a hand, but this is a way all of us who love Mei and her music can help from afar.
Mei and her family had no chance to rescue any of their possessions from the waters that swept into the first floor of their house. While her husband Nicholas kept watch over their young son Lukas, Mei bravely rushed into the rising flood waters to bring her parents to safety after they were trapped in chest-deep water on their way to her house. By the time everyone had gotten to the second floor and safety, the lower floor was engulfed in filthy water and Mei had lost the complete contents of her first-floor piano studio (where she works as an award-winning piano instructor), including her books, her music, her diplomas, a lifetime's worth of concert and recital programs, and, most devastingly of all, her beloved Bechstein piano, in which she had invested nearly all her life savings.

She and her family have suffered many other losses, including both of their cars, but the loss of her piano and studio have hit Mei particularly hard -- they are the source of her livelihood, and this piano was Mei's dearest possession, practically an extension of her body. And of everything she and her family have lost, this will be the hardest to replace. Their flood insurance coverage maximum doesn't even remotely cover the piano's value ($80,000).
So let's pitch in to help Mei get a new piano! Anything you can give to help Mei get back to work and making music again would be so appreciated. All donations will go directly to Mei.
