Help Mei Ling with post-surgical care after 2 hip surgeries
Donation protected
My good friend Mei Ling Moore, a longtime Lake Shrine devotee who had actively volunteered at Lake Shrine and at Convocation for years, had been largely confined to her couch the past six months while waiting to have hip replacement surgery.
Mei Ling, who’s 77, had the surgery Thursday and was sent home on Friday to her apartment, where she was all alone with no one to help her. That night, she fell and fractured her other hip and crawled for an hour to reach her phone.
She called 911 and wound up in the hospital where she had surgery on Saturday at midnight. Thankfully, she is at a rehab facility and will need to stay there as long as a month, or even more.
She is in dire need of expensive caregivers for a couple weeks while she recovers from her two surgeries with greatly compromised mobility. She will be on pain meds that will make her, in her words, “dopey” and unable to do much for herself.
It's unclear at this time what portion of the surgery her insurance will cover. She will also need funds for prescriptions and transportation to and from her physical therapy appointments and follow-up visits with her surgeon.
Mei Ling’s rent takes up 80% of her Social Security check, leaving her about $400 a month for food and everything else.
With your help, we can help Mei Ling avoid a financial crisis. Whatever you can contribute for her care will be deeply appreciated.
