Hi, my name is Meg, and I am a senior at Lehigh University studying mechanical engineering.I am a very involved student, who has held leadership roles in oSTEM , Club Softball, and Club Basketball.

Over spring break, my busy life took an unexpected turn. I was involved in a Onewheel (electric skateboarding) accident that resulted in a severe injury. I hit a bump and fell hard onto the pavement, doing a complete split. Just days later, I suffered another setback when I tripped down a set of stairs and re-injured the same area.

After multiple MRIs and consultations with orthopedic specialists, I was diagnosed with a complete tear of my adductor longus and adductor brevis muscles, both avulsed from my pelvis. I also sustained a pelvic fracture and a strain of my obturator externus. This is a rare and complex injury that requires specialized surgical repair. According to my surgeon, 25% of these kind of injuries occur in non-professional athletes, and of that 25%, 25% are women with this kind of injury. Complete tears off the bone of these muscles are not common, especially for my demographic.

Because of the severity and rarity of my condition, I have been referred to the Vincera Institute in Philly— one of the only places equipped to perform this procedure. Unfortunately, since this surgery is considered experimental, it is not covered by my insurance.

I am now facing an unexpected financial burden while also trying to focus on healing and continuing my education. I am seeking to raise money to help cover the cost of this surgery and begin my recovery journey. This amount will relieve the surgical costs, as well as help me financially from the setback of missing shifts due to the severe pain.
