Hello folks My name is Meghan and I am a front-line Senior Resident Support Worker here in Nanaimo B.C. What this means is that I work directly with vulnerable populations in my community. These are folks who face multiple barriers to things such as stable housing, employment, and healthcare. Some examples of these barriers would be mental health struggles, trauma, and addiction.

The reason I am creating this Go-Fund-Me is because the last several months have been very challenging for me and I am in need of some support. A few days ago, my vehicle was broken into overnight. One of my rear windows was smashed, the frame was bent in the process, and the guitar that my father had gifted me, that carried a very high sentimental value, was stolen. I discovered the break-in when I went to my vehicle to take it to the shop for an appointment I had already made previously to diagnose some symptoms that recently started happening.

I have been doing front-line work for the past 14 years and have worked here in Nanaimo as well as in Victoria, B.C, Halifax, N.S, and Ottawa, ON. I am very dedicated to my work and do my best to provide as much support as possible to the populations that I work with. I believe that everyone should have access to things such as stable, affordable housing, and competent, trauma informed healthcare.

Costs for the repairs necessary due to the break in, (a new window, and some body work due to the window frame being damaged), time spent diagnosing and fixing the current reason for the engine light, then several other bills that have come up in the past several weeks as well as rent, are all together much more than I am able to manage on my own right now. Unfortunately, insurance doesn’t cover everything.

My vehicle is a very important part of my life. It enables me to get to and from work, and medical appointments, and it enables me to help my friends that don’t drive, get to and from important appointments as well. Being able to do these things plays a very large role in maintaining both my physical and mental health and myself and my cats (Mac and Cheese) would be forever grateful for any support that you are able to give.
