Help Meggie get Top Surgery

ABOUT ME:

My name is Meggie Cousland, I am a singer, songwriter and performer under the name Meggie Brown. I also work at a hair salon called Open Barbers.

I'm a non binary/trans masc person. I have really struggled coming to terms with my gender forever, but particularly the past decade . I have always known who I am deep down since I can remember (not so deep down though, always in my chest trying to burst out) but I never felt brave enough to be open with friends/family, even with myself. I tried to bury it, pretend it's not there...some friends say I haven't hidden it all that well :) It's a very lonely place.

I have spent a very long time wondering how I was going to navigate telling everyone who knows me let alone putting a go fund me up, how to ask for help, answering questions, my own internalised shame.

So, I've decided to just tell you all exactly what I'm thinking and what I need help with. Seems the obvious thing to do and can't believe it's taken so many years.

Open Barbers, my workplace and second home, a place that provides haircuts (and much more) in a queer and trans friendly space has allowed me to meet some of the most inspiring people that have helped me with my journey. The bravery and openness from the community - seeing people's journeys - is what has held my hand into feeling worthy enough to do this.

I'm trying to raise £7,000 which will cover the surgery itself, I have managed okay to pay for my doctors appointments.

I started going down the NHS route, however with it being hard, long and complicated, I want to make this part as simple as possible. I have found a good surgeon at the transgender clinic, and the psychiatrist I saw was amazing who has referred me.

If there's anyone reading this please get in touch if you have ever felt the ways I have, it can be so hard being surrounded by brave people fulfilling their dreams but feeling not worthy enough to do this for yourself.

I'm looking to raise this money before the end of the year, hoping to have surgery in the new year. I look forward to connecting with myself more, the mental and physical strain has been real. I'm still coming to terms with the fact that this is a real possibility with real support and love.

I'm giving this my best shot and any donations would be deeply appreciated.
