Help Megan as she recovers from a horrible and traumatic wreck.
Yesterday, August 23rd, Megan was hit by a driver who lost control of his vehicle. Her left hip was dislocated, and her tibia on her right leg was fractured. She is going to have to have surgery and get a plate and screws to fix her tibia, and she may have to have additional work done on her left hip. She will not be able to bear weight for AT LEAST three months. That means she won’t be able to physically work for three months, as she is an RN and she doesn’t have short or long-term disability, so she won’t be able to receive ANY money while she’s off. She has a long road ahead of her, and she really needs the support of those around her. On top of everything else she’s dealing with, she’s going to go three months without pay. I created this GoFundMe to try and help raise some money for Megan to help with bills, groceries, taking care of her pets, etc.
When I brought it up to her last night, she told me she didn’t think anyone would want to help. I told her she’s wrong, and I want us to prove it. She always tries to help anyone she can, as a nurse and as a person, but she doesn’t think she deserves any help in return. If you have the means and have the kindness in your heart, just know that any donations would mean the world to Megan. And us.
Megan is one of the hardest-working people I know. I mean, right now, she is working two jobs AND going to school to get her BSN. I couldn’t imagine doing all that she does and still being alive. She also has her precious babies to take care of, her two cats and two dogs, and her turtle, and we all know how expensive it can be to care for animals. She even had her backpack and computer with her because she knew she’d have to work on homework later. Unfortunately, her laptop was completely shattered in the crash.
Our family has been struggling this year, and Megan has been trying to help us stay afloat while also trying to take care of her own bills and expenses, but she can’t do it all. And because she’s also had to help us, she’s started struggling herself. She’s told me she’s already behind on some bills, and now it’s only going to get worse. With everything else she’s dealing with and the physical pain she’s in, I want to try and lift some of the burden off of her, even if it’s a little bit.
After the wreck, she was immediately airlifted to CAMC General. Her left hip had to be popped back into place, but there is still a loose fragment that they are worried about. We won’t know for sure if they’ll have to go in and stabilize it until they actually put her under and physically examine her hip. Her tibia on her right leg was fractured and will have to have a plate and screws to stabilize it.
I had to come upon the scene of the wreck and come to the worst realization it was my sister in that car. Our nephew’s birthday party was yesterday, and we were on the way to it. We live beside each other, and I had thought about riding with her but hadn’t asked. Well, she ended up leaving her house just two minutes before me. And she only made it two minutes down the road before the other driver wrecked into her. When I got to Montgomery Heights, I saw traffic was stopped, and well, my mind always jumps to the worst conclusions, so I instantly tracked Megan on Life360. And it said she was right with me. My heart stopped. And then I happened to look back up, and I saw my uncle Jack down there at the wreck, and he was waving at me to come because he knew my car. I can’t even explain how I felt when I realized there was no way I could even get to her or try to see if she was even conscious. She had to be cut out of her car, but even before that, her car was totaled.
So she was driving TOWARDS Montgomery, and he was driving away from it. He went to pass the car in front of him, and when he saw Megan, he jerked back over and then completely lost control of the car. The accident caused Megan to be hit so hard that she ended up in the passenger seat of her vehicle. She was terrified. Every airbag went off, and she thought her skin was burning because of how hot it was in her car from the smoke. She lost consciousness for at least a minute, and she said it was hard to stay awake. But she said she heard our daddy’s voice, and he kept saying, “Megan, what are you doing? Wake up.” And that is finally what got her awake
2025 has been a year our family will remember forever, for all the WRONG reasons. We lost our aunt to cancer in May, and our sister found out she had cancer as well. Her first chemo treatment ended up being the same day our aunt died. And now Megan had to go through a horrible and traumatic experience like this, and will be dealing with repercussions for a long time. This doesn’t even mention all of the other issues and heartaches we’ve had this year. We truly cannot catch a break.
No matter how hard Megan works or how tired she may be at the end of her shifts, she always and I mean ALWAYS tries to help the rest of us out in any way she can. Even when she’s struggling herself. No matter what, Megan is always there for her family, her friends, and her pets.
The outcome of this could have been so much worse, and we’re beyond thankful our Megan is still with us today. She’s in a lot of pain and is going to need all the prayers, support, help, and positive vibes she can get as she navigates her life after this accident. Rest assured, she won’t go through it alone.
