About Noh Bo Academy

Noh Bo Academy provides education to students from the Karen Minority, a group displaced from Myanmar to Thailand due to systematic persecution. The school currently supports about 250 students, including about 70 students in GED learning. Many students live in the school dormitories while attending classes.

The dormitories are outdated and in need of renovation. Improving the dormitories will help students live in a safer, cleaner, and more comfortable environment while they continue their education.

Many students at Noh Bo Academy do not receive a recognized high school diploma from either Myanmar or Thailand. Because of this, the GED certificate can be an important pathway for them to pursue further education, and better job opportunities.

What Megan Will Do

Megan is a junior in high school and spent sophomore year living in Thailand as a YES Abroad Scholar. Megan will volunteer at Noh Bo Academy for a month where she will teach classes on GED preparation, English learning, and Art. She will also bring educational supplies to support the school’s GED program and student life.

Fundraising Goals:

We are raising funds for two purposes:

1. Dormitory Renovation Fund — $11,551

The main goal is to support Noh Bo Academy’s dormitory renovation needs. Most of the funds raised will be donated to Christ Church Bangkok, the main supporting partner of Noh Bo Academy. These funds will be designated specifically for the school’s dormitory renovation effort.

2. Student Supplies & Learning Materials Fund — $500

An additional $500 will help purchase items Megan can bring to the school, including: school supplies and stationery, GED books and learning materials, first aid kits, craft supplies, female sanitary items, board games and student activity materials

Transparency

All funds raised will go toward the dormitory renovation and student support. We will keep records of donations, transfers, and purchases, and we will provide proof of spending and donations after the project. None of the fundraising money will be used for Megan’s travel or personal costs.
