Tempe Junior Crew has felt like home for three years now and I don't know what I did before I was part of this community. When I tell people I wake up at 3:45 everyone is astonished but our team makes it look easy. I have never met another community that supports each other like Tempe Junior Crew does. Through early mornings and tough ergs, every day we show each other we can do more than what we thought possible. Everyone on our team is always looking for ways to show up for each other and make sure everyone has equal opportunities. For example, when I briefly mentioned that I wouldn't be able to afford River City Sprints Regatta because it was not originally in my mom's budget for regattas since the information was sent out after the season started, I received a message just the next day from a teammate with a whole list of ways I could make going to the regatta possible. This is why I value every single person on my team so much and why I will do everything to be able to show up for them and myself at every regatta.
The weekend of River City Sprints Regatta is my birthday weekend. When I found out I wouldn't have the means to attend, my first feeling was sadness. I asked my school friends about the situation and they told me it was a good thing that I would be able to have a “relaxing” birthday weekend. It is the complete opposite in my mind. My closest friends are my teammates who will be away on the day I want to see them most. The word teammate has been redefined in my mind as more than the classic definition being: “a fellow member of a team.” To me it's closer to the definition of confidant, in the way we share our passion and hardest moments. I value every opportunity to race and prepare myself for regionals, and hopefully nationals. I know how much it matters to my teammates, coaches, and mostly myself that I can grasp onto every opportunity to better myself and my teammates. I know that going to River City Sprints would give that opportunity to better myself and continue the steps towards qualifying for nationals.
The funds raised will cover the full cost of the regatta, including travel, equipment, and entry fees, all managed by the team. Your support will help me be there for my team and continue pursuing my goals in rowing. Thank you so much for considering a donation to help me reach River City Sprints!
