Hello friends and family! As many of you know, my sister Megan was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Undifferentiated Embryonal Sarcoma almost 10 years ago. She underwent a major surgery to remove the softball sized tumor that had grown inside of her liver. In addition to surgery, Megan also underwent 8 rounds of chemotherapy and 30 rounds of proton beam radiation .The good news is that since then, she's been in remission. She's now a 21 year old college student with hopes of going to medical school. The bad news is that for the last 10 years, Megan has dealt with long term chronic pain and many other complications from her treatments. We've known for years that she would never be able to carry her own children, due to the location of the radiation. Over the last several months, Megan has been in and out of oncologist and gynecologist appointments. There's been a recent development with her health. The doctors found a severe dysplasia of cells in her cervix and cervical canal. These cells are dangerous, and if not removed, would turn into cancer cells. In addition to this, Megan was diagnosed with endometriosis and has also developed painful ovarian cysts. Given these circumstances, Megan will need a full hysterectomy. She has viable eggs left in one of her ovaries, but will need therapy and an extraction in order to save those eggs, so she may someday have children. In order to do this, she'll have to pay for the process up front, as insurance will not cover it. We are raising money to go towards those treatments so that Megan will have the opportunity to have kids down the road when she's ready. We do not have time to save up for the procedure as there's a sense of urgency in the situation, she can't have the surgery needed to prevent the cancer cells from forming before she has her eggs extracted. Anyone who knows Megan knows that she is the most hardworking and caring person out there, it would be a shame if she didn't have the opportunity to pass those traits on to her children someday.
Thank you,
Lindsey
