Help Megan & Her Son Rebuild After a Sudden Apartment Flood

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Alan - Megan’s partner, proud boyfriend, and dad-joke-loving human who cares deeply about her and her little family. I’m setting this up to help them get through something no one should have to face alone.

Earlier this week, Megan’s apartment flooded when her upstairs neighbor’s hot water heater broke. Water poured through her ceiling and caused major structural damage. There's a video attached to this post.

Her appliances are ruined. The kitchen cabinets are destroyed. The wood floors and parts of the walls and ceiling are unsalvageable. Her apartment is expected to be a construction zone until at least late fall.

Most of her personal belongings were spared, including the contents of her and her son’s bedrooms, along with some furniture. But even with that small relief, the situation is still serious. The apartment is unlivable. She, her son, and their two cats need to find a safe, temporary place to stay.

Emergency crews, the Red Cross, and Servpro responded quickly, but recovery will take time. She has insurance, but it won’t cover everything. And the process of dealing with multiple overlapping insurance policies and possible legal action is slow and uncertain. Right now, she’s facing a stack of out-of-pocket costs to keep life stable for her family while the long-term recovery unfolds.

We’re raising funds to help cover:
  • Temporary housing (first month, last month, deposit, and broker fees)
  • Storage and moving costs
  • Replacement of essential household items and appliances
  • Pet-related needs
  • Daily living expenses while she’s displaced

We also looked into state housing assistance, but those programs haven’t been able to help. The system often overlooks people in this kind of situation. She earns just enough to be disqualified from public aid, but not enough to recover from something like this without help.

Megan has worked hard to create a home and provide for her son and fur babies. This flood has upended all of that. Without help, she may lose more than what any insurance can replace.

If you can donate, thank you. If not, sharing this with others would still go a long way. Every bit of support helps her take the next step forward.

With gratitude,
Alan
